Frans Dekker started practicing architecture in Vryheid in 1993. In 2003 he registered with The South African Council for the Architectural Profession as a Professional Senior Architectural Technologist.

Frans Dekker is also the Managing Director of the South African Institute of Architectural Technologists NPC (SAIAT). He was elected to the National Committee of SAIAT in 2005 and in 2009 become the Administration and Finance Officer. In 2013 he was elected as the Executive President of SAIAT and in February 2020 as the Managing Director.

In 2010 he started representing SAIAT as a permanent member of the now TC060 committee at SABS, starting with SANS204 and later SANS10400-XA. He was the convenor of the workgroups responsible for SANS10400-A, SANS10400-B, SANS10400-D, SANS10400-H, SANS10400-Q, SANS10400- S and SANS10400-XA and is chairing the subcommittees under TC059 for Energy Efficiency and Universal Access.
